We’ve invested in Belfast’s entries because they are an important part of our city centre's built environment. They hold fascinating, untold stories of past and present, waiting to be rediscovered and brought to life. The entries are also key connections which enhance the city centre's accessibility and attractiveness.
Phase one of our Belfast Entries project focused on improving seven entries in the city:
The project transformed these entries into vibrant places that are safe, welcoming, playful and imaginative. It also helped to improve wayfinding through the city centre, while promoting the heritage and culture of the entries themselves.
Along with general repair works and repainting, creative consultancies Daisy Chain Inc, Form Native and Urban Scale Interventions helped us to deliver enhanced lighting and bespoke artwork.
It’s great to see residents and visitors exploring the entries and bringing them to life again. The project won the Public – Private Partnership category at the all-Ireland Urban Land Institute and CBRE Excellence in Placemaking Awards 2021.
Phase 2 of our Belfast Entries project is now complete, helping to transform:
Thanks to help from AECOM, Daisy Chain Inc and Form Native, we created a vision and design for The Entries, carefully researching each one to understand its unique cultural and historical significance.
We cleansed the entries and completed maintenance work, introduced large and small scale artworks, lighting, interpretive signage and paving, liaising with building owners.
We hope you enjoy exploring Belfast’s Entries and discovering their historic significance.

In this video Dr Callie Persic, Development Manager at Belfast City Council, explains how one of Belfast city centre’s oldest and most historically significant entries, Sugarhouse, has reopened to the public after more than 50 years.
This video is one minute and 35 seconds long.
The Belfast Entries project is part of an ongoing city centre revitalisation programme developed in response to the Bank Buildings fire in August 2018. For more information, get in touch.
