Special Action Areas

Special Action Areas

The following five areas were identified as Special Action Areas (SAAs) for regeneration in our City Centre Regeneration and Investment Strategy:

• Inner North
• Inner West
• North East Quarter
• Transport Hub and South Centre
• Oxford Street and Eastern Bank.

These are parts of the city centre where, in a phased approach, we are preparing more intensive local plans which aim to bring forward regeneration in these areas in line with the larger ambitions of the strategy.
 
They are also areas where a more pressing need for action has been identified. This is either to coordinate the benefits of major new institutional developments (for example, Ulster University, ICC and transport hub), or to initiate the comprehensive regeneration of a declining retail area, such as in the North East Quarter and the area between Castle Street and CastleCourt.
