Project delivery partnership

  • Project delivery partnership

We manage project delivery in Belfast for several central government programmes including Social Investment Fund, the Urban Villages Initiative and Building Successful Communities.  We also deliver Heritage Lottery Fund projects in the city.

  • Building Successful Communities

The Building Successful Communities initiative is part of the Department for Communities' Facing the Future - Housing Strategy for Northern Ireland and aims to use housing intervention as one of the main catalysts for local regeneration.

Key projects that fall under this programme, and have also received additional funding from ourselves, include Belfast Bikesalleygates and renewing the routes.

  • The Urban Villages Initiative

Overseen by the Executive Office (TEO), the Urban Villages Initiative  is designed to improve good relations outcomes and develop thriving places where there has been a history of deprivation and community tension.

We are working in partnership with the Urban Villages Initiative to improve our existing parks and to create new parks, play parks and open spaces across Belfast.

There are five Urban Village areas designated by Northern Ireland Executive, one of which is in Derry~Londonderry.  The remaining four are in Belfast:

    • Ardoyne and Greater Ballysillan, north Belfast
    • Colin, west Belfast
    • EastSide, east Belfast
    • Sandy Row, Donegall Pass and the Markets areas, south Belfast

    Key projects currently include:

  • Social Investment Fund

The Social Investment Fund (SIF) was set up by the Executive Office (TEO) to deliver social change. It aims to make life better for people living in targeted areas by reducing poverty, unemployment and physical deterioration.

The fund will run until March 2020 and all funding has been committed to projects prioritised by local steering groups.

We have been appointed as the delivery partner for a number of planned SIF projects.  We’ll post information on these projects here once they have received final approval.

  • Heritage Lottery Fund

The Heritage Lottery Fund distributes the heritage share of National Lottery funding, supporting a wide variety of projects across the UK.

With support from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Friends of Botanic Garden, we’ve part-funded and delivered a £3.8 million restoration project at the Tropical Ravine in Botanic Gardens, bringing this fantastic building back to its Victorian splendour.

With funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (NI)’s Parks for People Programme, we are delivering large scale heritage project at the City Cemetery. The project is designed to protect and enhance the history and heritage of the site and allow more people to access and understand it.

We are developing plans to restore and extend Templemore Baths following a successful application to the Heritage Lottery Fund, which has secured £5 million towards the project.

  • Environmental improvements at Ballymacarrett Walkway

Work on environmental and cycling infrastructure improvements on Ballymacarrett Walkway in east Belfast began in February 2020. We’re delivering this project thanks to funding from the Urban Villages Initiative and the Department for Infrastructure.

  • Environmental improvements at Bloomfield Walkway

Environmental improvement work is underway at Bloomfield Walkway between Beersbridge Road and Upper Newtownards Road at Holywood Arches. We’re delivering this project on behalf of the Department for Infrastructure.
