We’re a major funder of advice providers across Belfast, which provide free, confidential and independent advice on a range of issues including benefits, consumer, debt, employment and housing issues.

Belfast Citywide Tribunal Service represents clients who wish to appeal Social Security Agency (SSA) decisions on benefits, including Employment Support Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independent Payment and Universal Credit. It enables clients to challenge decisions, assisting them through the process and representing them in both an Appeal and Tribunal setting.

You can access this service from any of the advice centres that we fund, by emailing tribunal@ligonielvillage.com, calling 028 9039 1765 or visit us at:

  • Migrant support

We support a number of projects which aim to help new communities integrate with existing communities in Belfast.

We also provide training on issues relating to migration. This includes addressing the myths and misinformation that can cause division.

We also chair a migrant forum that supports networking and communication between organisations that work with migrant communities.

    Refugee transition guide

This guide was developed by The Refugee and Asylum Forum in partnership with Belfast City Council, NIHE and The Law Centre. It gives vital information to anyone who is applying for, or has recently gained refugee status in Northern Ireland.

    The guide is available in:

    • English
    • Arabic
    • Chinese
    • Farsi
    • French
    • Mandarin
    • Somalian

Request the guide by emailing goodrelations@belfastcity.gov.uk or calling 028 9027 0663.

We have produced a guide for those who have recently arrived in Belfast. It includes information about a range of support services, including:

    • business advice
    • education
    • community safety
    • family support
    • language classes
    • recreation activities.

    Migrants rights guides

The Law Centre (NI), together with the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission, has produced a range of guides for migrant workers.

The guides explain the different rights and entitlements you have while working and living in Northern Ireland. They also contain advice about what to do if you feel your rights are not being recognised.

All the guides are available from the Law Centre NI website.
