Information for childminders

  • Introduction

Children are a vulnerable group and can be more seriously affected by food poisoning than other groups of people. Food safety in childcare establishments is very important.

  • How to register

If you are setting up a childminding business you must register it with us at least 28 days before it's due to open.

  • New business pack

To help you get started we've put together a food business pack containing advice, guidance and information on food safety legislation. This pack will help you through the process of opening a new food business.

To get your free copy of the pack, contact Environmental Health by emailing envhealth@belfastcity.gov.uk or by calling 028 9027 0468.

  • Help and guidance

    Safer food, better business

All food businesses are legally required to carry out a hazard analysis of the activities undertaken on a day to day basis in their food establishment.

This food safety management pack has been designed specifically for childminders. It will help you comply with food hygiene regulations, produce safe food and protect the children you look after.

Allergies and intolerances: Guidance for businesses

Businesses must provide information to customers who need to avoid certain ingredients due to a food allergy or intolerance.

The Food Standards Agency has developed a guide to provide general advice and information on food allergy and intolerance, allergen information rules and best practice guidance on cross-contamination controls for loose and prepacked foods.

More information for businesses on allergies and intolerances can be found at the Food Standards Agency website (link opens in new window).
