Getting ready to recycle at home

  • Get ready to recycle at home

Everyone in Belfast has access to recycling bins or boxes at home.

This is so we can all work together to reduce the amount we send to landfill and recycle as much as we can.

  • What do I use to recycle at home?

The type of bins or boxes you have for recycling varies, depending on which part of the city you live in – urban Belfast (usually recycling boxes or wheelie boxes), or the suburbs (usually blue or brown bins).

    Typically, you might have:

    • a blue and brown bin
    • a wheelie box with separate containers and a green food waste caddy
    • recycling boxes in various colours and a green food waste caddy

All households in Belfast also have access to a black bin for disposing of any waste which cannot be recycled.

  • How do I order what I need?

If you don’t have any recycling bins or boxes, first use our postcode checker to find out what you should have.

Then order your bins or boxes online, and we’ll deliver them to you. If you prefer, you can also call us on 028 9027 0230.

Recycling boxes and bins are free to residents.

If you live in rented accommodation, you should contact your landlord first.

  • How do I check my collection day?

Once you have the right bins or boxes already, please use our postcode checker to check your collection day.

All bins and boxes should be left at the agreed collection point by 7.30am on this day.
