You can register your baby’s birth at the Registration Office in Belfast City Hall by appointment only.

By law, your baby's birth must be registered within 42 days of the date of birth. This is free and can be done in any District Registrar's office in Northern Ireland.
You will need to:
The registrar will complete the process and issue a short birth certificate and a HS123 infant registration form.
You will need to fill in a birth registration form. This is usually completed by the person registering the birth (normally the child's mother).

Once you have completed this form, bring it to the registrar’s office along with your documentation and we will complete the registration process. We cannot accept postal applications.

Additional birth certificates, either short or full, may be purchased at the time of registration for £8 per copy. You can pay by credit card, debit card, cheque or cash.
