More businesses than ever are recognising the blooming value that flowers add in making their business more attractive to those who live, work in or visit Belfast.
The hospitality sector in particular is flourishing as part of the annual Belfast in Bloom (BiB) competition with a greater number of bars, cafes and restaurants taking part. This year too saw a number of office premises joining the campaign aimed at increasing civic pride and responsibility.
Councillor Kate Nicholl, Chair of the People and Communities Committee, attended the BiB prize-giving ceremony at Malone House said: “Everyone who participates in Belfast in Bloom, whether they support flower towers in the city centre or put forward the window box outside their home is supporting Belfast in boosting the well-being of all who live, work in or visit by Belfast by making it even more attractive.
“Nothing says summer like a riot of colour which can put a smile on people’s faces even on the dullest day,” added the councillor.
She also congratulated schools who took part with awards given to a school in each of the four corners of the city, west, east, north and south.
Ten Square Hotel won the hotel category; Best Public House was Errigle Inn on the Ormeau Road, while Granny Annies at the corner of Chichester and Victoria Streets won Best Restaurant category.
Donegall Pass Community Forum took the title for Best Community Street, they also won Best Community Garden for the ‘Garden of Eatin’ while Whiterock won the Best Community Group for their efforts.
