Pied tamarin
Saguinus bicolor
The pied tamarin is a small monkey found in the tropical forests of Brazil. Pied tamarins are the most endangered of the three sub-species of bare-faced tamarins.
The head of the adult pied tamarin is bald with black skin and large ears, giving this primate an unusual and striking appearance. Their body length can reach 28 centimetres and tails can be up to 42 centimetres. Pied tamarins can weigh up to 430 grams.
These small New World monkeys live in groups of four to 15 individuals. Only the dominant female will breed and will commonly give birth to twins. The care of infants is shared throughout the group, with the father doing most of the carrying.

The IUCN status of the pied tamarin is critically endangered.
